About the Art & Heritage Walk

Honoring the Past, While Creating the Future.

The Downtown Henderson Art & Heritage Walk started in 2021 as an initiative of Acquest Group in partnership with the Flint Hill KVCDC, a community development nonprofit with Henderson roots behind the Henderson Tobacco Warehouse project.

Our mission is to honor and celebrate the vast range of cultures, backgrounds, artistic styles, and stories found in Henderson and Vance County through public artworks and recorded oral histories. We aim to preserve the past by revitalizing existing murals scattered throughout downtown and conducting recorded interviews with Henderson locals, while paving a way for the future by commissioning new artworks of all kinds. Our hope is to instill pride in how far Henderson has come so we can all work to change it for the better, together.

The Downtown Henderson Art & Heritage Walk is funded by a 2021 AARP Community Challenge grant.

The AARP Community Challenge is a grant program to make tangible improvements to communities that jump-start long-term change. It is part of AARP’s nationwide Livable Communities initiative, which supports the efforts of cities, towns, neighborhoods and rural areas to become great places to live for people of all ages.
